Dexis and USAID Strengthen Democratic Values in Timor-Leste

Dili, February 16, 2024 — Today, The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and Dexis Consulting Group (Dexis) proudly announced collaboration on the newly created program “Accountability and Integrity Mechanism activity,” focused on promoting accountability and anti-corruption reforms in Timor-Leste.

The initial three-year, $7.9-million contract awarded to Dexis marks a crucial step in USAID’s new generation of democracy support in Timor-Leste. The objective is to bolster key Timorese institutions, enhancing the country’s democratic system to deliver “an inclusive, prosperous, and healthy Timor-Leste” for its young, growing population.

“We believe in the power of accountability and transparency to build a foundation for a thriving democracy. People-level impact is paramount, and this new activity is a testament to the U.S. Government’s commitment to empower the people of Timor-Leste,” said USAID Interim Mission Director Mark White.

Dexis will work with civil society, and the government and parliament of Timor-Leste to strengthen the strategic, institutional, communications, and coordination capacity of key accountability institutions, especially the Anti-Corruption Commission, the Office of the Ombudsman for Human Rights and Justice, and the Audit Chamber. Stronger institutional independence of these oversight agencies, coupled with the development of sound legislative and governmental policy, help ensure that citizens can hold their government accountable.

“We appreciate the confidence USAID has expressed in Dexis with this award and look forward to working with the men and women of Timor-Leste to promote greater accountability for a better future for this still-young country,” said Dexis Chief Executive Officer Mihir Desai.
