Colombia – Access To Justice Activity

The Access to Justice Activity worked to increase access to justice and strengthen institutions at both the national level and in seven priority regions (“consolidation regions”) identified by the Colombian government. Among other activities, Checchi helped establish and strengthen Justice Houses and mobile Rural Justice Brigades to bring justice services to citizens in the consolidation regions. Checchi also helped address gender-based violence (GBV) in the consolidation regions by strengthening the capacity of local prosecutors to investigate and prosecute GBV cases, as well as through technical assistance and grants to civil society organizations that provide legal assistance to GBV victims. In addition, Checchi helped establish land restitution courts for the dispossessed victims of Colombia’s lengthy armed conflict; this effort included developing specialized training for judges and other personnel assigned to these courts.
